Led Display Resolution
Resolution is an important specs in LED display,
In LED displays, resolution refers to how many pixels there are horizontally and vertically on the screen. The resolution size is represented by horizontal pixel QTY * vertical pixel QTY, Like 1920×1080, or we can also HD, 2K, 4K to represent certain resolutions.
As the led display consists by LED lamp, hence for a certain size led display, the resolution of the led display is determined by the pixel pitch.
LED display width = pixel pitch * horizontal pixel QTY
LED display Height = pixel pitch * vertical pixel QTY
And we know that for a certain pixel pitch, it has an optimal viewing distance. The optimal viewing distance is the ideal distance between the screen and the audience where the audience can not identify single pixels.

LED display’s physical resolution VS visual resolution
Our eye has an angular resolution of about 1 arcminute, we would know that for a certain distance, our eye’s detectable pixel size ( which means that at a certain distance, this whole area would be deemed as only one pixel) would be:
Pixel size = cot(1/2 arcminute) * viewing distance
From the above formula, we would know that from 1km away, a diameter of 15cm ball, would be only viewed as 1 pixel. This means that the viewing distance: pixel pitch = 3000:1
While in LED display, from so many applications, we find out that the formula below is more suitable
Optimal viewing distance = Pixel pitch * 1000 / 0.8
The reason is that, LED display’s pixel pitch is calculated by the adjoint two led lamp, While the led lamp itself has sizes. So it is not a dot that emitting light, but a surface. For example, for pixel pitch 1.875mm, it uses SMD1212, which means that the gap between the LED lamp is only 1.875-1.2 = 0.625mm.
With the formula above, we would know that it is not that the bigger the resolution, the better the led display. As the visual resolution is determined by our viewing distance, and with our viewing distance becomes bigger the smaller the visual resolution would be.
For example, for a Pixel pitch 1.25mm, using cabinet 600*337.5mm, screen size: 2.4m W x 1.35m H. physical resolution is 1920*1080.
If the viewing distance is 4m away, the visual resolution would be around 750*421
If the viewing distance is 10m away, the visual resolution would be 300*168

The resolution of the led display is determined by the the size and pixel pitch of the led display. For example, the resolution of HD, 2K, 4K, 8K can be deemed as high resolution. And by using different pixel pitch, the screen size would also be different.
