What Is Transparent LED Display

A Transparent LED Screen is a LED Video wall. Light can pass through this screen, Which means we can see through it, That’s why we call it transparent LED screen. So we can not only see the playing content on the screen, but also the things behind the screen. It is kind of like V-blinds. 
Transparent LED Screens are very popular to be installed behind store window to be used for displaying ads, and also very popular to be installed behind the surface glass of building, Elevator shaft and building decorations. 
 
Transparent LED Screens were used to install indoor or semi-outdoor. But now the outdoor transparent led screen also become more and more popular.  Usually different projects need to customize different cabinet sizes and different brightness. In some projects, the Screen would be exposed directly to sunlight. So ambient light sensor function is also available so that the brightness of the screen can be changed according to the ambient light level. Which gives the best performance while keeping the electricity bill low.

How Do Transparent LED Screens Work?

All the LED Screen is made up by led chips (pixels). For a 320*240 resolution screen, it means that it has 320 led chips (pixels) in its X axis, and it has total 240 rows (means it has 240 led chips (pixels) in its Y axis). For the transparent LED screen, It is the same for the led chip, while the difference is in the PCB board, and the layout. 
 
For example, Px3.9mm and Py7.8mm transparent led screen. means that the pixel pitch in X axis is 3.9mm, and in the Y axis is 7.8mm. The Led chip we use for this screen is SMD 2020, which means the led chip is 2mm wide and 2 mm long. The PCB board we use is stripe like, it is as close as 3mm wide. So when we put the PCB board on the cabinet, It would have 7.8-3mm=4.8mm wide gap which is how the light can pass through. And we can also calculate the light pass through rate. The light pass through rate = total gap space / total space. in the example the light pass through rate is around 4.8/7.8=61%.

Transparent Led Display Price

It depends, Different applications would have different price ranges. The outdoor transparent led screen is more expensive than the indoor version.
 
The main factors that affect the price the most are LED chip, PCB board, IC, Power supply, and receiving card.  Normally it is highly related to pixel pitch, the LED chip, and brightness. As the pixel pitch can determine how many chips are needed. Different LED chips would have different price ranges. and different brightness needs would need different IC quantities or different LED chip requirements. 
 
Another important factor, As most of the indoor Transparent LED Display projects are installed behind window. As the window has different sizes, and we also need to avoid window frames in installation. Our normally cabinet size are 1000mm W *500mm H and 1000mm W * 1000mm H, So most of the projects would need customized cabinet size. This also would affect the price a little bit.
 
Normally for a general indoor LED transparent Screen, the price would be around 600-1000USD/sqm
For a general outdoor LED transparent Screen the price would be around 900-1300USD/sqm, based on different specs.

What's The Difference Between Convential LED Screen And Transparent LED Screen?

1. The Transparent LED Screen has High Light Pass through rate (Transparency), Which would not affect indoor daylighting. 

You can also see through the tranparent led screen to observe what’s in the outside. The Conventional LED screen has a solid front and back, which the light can not pass the cabinet. Besides, as the air can also pass through the Transparent LED Screen, hence unlike the conventional led screen which would need fans to cool down, The transparent LED Screen has a very cooling ability by itself. And this also saves more electricity and make it more durable.

2. Lightweight design, Making it more easy to install and has less requirement on the installation place

The conventional LED screen is around 38-50kg per square meter. So it is very heavy for single person to do the installation. As normally the led screen would be installed on the wall, hence it would also create a big load on the wall. While for the Transparent LED Screen, Even the outdoor Transparent LED Screen would be less than 10Kg/per square meter. The indoor version can be weight less as 5kg/sqm. With such weight, it is more easy for people to install, And it also would only give limited load on the structure.

3. LED Strip Module design, Customized Shape possible

The Conventional LED screen’s shape is determined by its cabinet, as there are many electrical wire and design in the cabinet. Hence it is very hard for us to customized the Cabinet. While for the Transparent LED Screen, As the receiving card and power supplier are all integrated within a box. Hence we can cutomized the length of the LED Strip, then we can make different shapes for it. For example, Various Triangle shape. We can also make curve Transparent LED Screen as well.

4. Perfect match with the glass curtain wall, hidden installation, does not affect the building shape

The construction of the conventional LED screens requires a large-scale steel frame structure, which is time-consuming and labor-intensive and has a certain impact on the shape and aesthetics of the building. The LED transparent screen can be easily and perfectly combined with the wall with a small amount of construction during installation and use, without damage to the wall, and can also improve the overall aesthetics of its appearance.

5. Easy maintenance, LED Stripe Module maintenance

For most conventional LED screen, they are using Front maintenance treatment. Hence when it has a problem, it need to take down the entire module or the whole cabinet for maintenance. While for The transparent LED Screen, We can just replace the LED Sctripe module during maintenance, which is simple and quick to operate and reduces maintenance costs.

What Brightness Should The Transparent LED Screen Be?

Brightness is a very important factor for LED screen, as this would determine whether the content of the screen can be perceived by people, especial for outdoor LED Screen. 
 
As the screen is placed outdoor, so when we decide the brightness, we need to take sunlight into consideration. If the Screen is installed in a place that would be exposed to sunlight directly. The brightness would be better over 7500nit.
While if the screen won’t be exposed to sunlight, then the brightness would be much less, 4500-5500nit can be ok. 
 
As the screen is not constantly exposed under sunlight, so it is better to have a light sensor that the screen can change the brightness of the screen based on the ambient light, just like out phone does.
