When it comes to LED display, led lamp is the most important, and expensive component. During the development, now it has several different led lamp technology in the market. From the new to the old, it has MIP, COB, GOB, SMD and DIP. Different technology has a different applications. You can see the chart below.

Mip is the newest led lamp technology, it means Micro in package which is a technology that we put the micro led chip in package. As the pixel pitch of the led screen become smaller and smaller, hence the led chip also become smaller and smaller. in the normal package of the SMD, it has a package limitation of around 1mm x 1mm, as when the package size is less than 1mm x 1mm, the soldering is not strong enough for the lamp to hold in the PCB. and MIP is a technology, that we can make those small led chip 4 series of RGB lamp packed within one package, hence this 4 lamp would have a bigger package which can have a better soldering on the PCB which means it has a better ability in handling impact. It is a compromise between SMD and COB as in the first place, as COB is very expensive.
COB means chip on board, that the led chip would directly fixed on the PCB. It has flip COB, and normal COB. Now the price of the COB has decreased a lot, and the COB technology is the trend of the led display’s application.
As Cob’s led chip is directly mounted on the PCB, and a glue layer is applied on the PCB, which gives it many benefits.
1: unafraid of impact, and scratches. less dead lamp rate
2: unafraid of dust, no dust would get inside to ruin the circuit
3: unafraid of water and moist. as it has a glue on the top, which make the led board surface IP65 rated.
GOB means Glue on board, Actually it is still SMD lamp, but we would cover the led boards surface with glue, so that the led lamp is full covered from air, dust and moist, which protect the led lamp better.
SMD means surface mount device. Currently this is still the most used led lamp type, due to its easy to design, and use, and also have many suppliers. and the specs can have a very wide selection.
DIP means Dual in-line package, it is a early led lamp package type. which is used in early led display. Nowdays, only some of the outdoor led display still use DIP led lamp. It has a benifts of high brightness and longer life span, but a narrow viewing angle.
Why we need to use the same batch led lamp?
When you decide to add more led screens to your current led display stock, the sales would always warn you that the new led screen can not mix use with the old led screen due to color difference, even though that you brought the old led screen not long ago. Why is that?
The reason is that we produce the led screen based on orders, and we purchase the led lamp fr0m the supplier, and the led lamp is produced by batches. Normally the led lamp factory produce the led lamp on a reguraly basis ( depending on the orders too), for example, producing one batch led lamp for two days. hence it is hard to get the same batch led lamp even after a short time.
Different batch led lamp would have color and brightness difference, which would result color and brightness difference on the led display if mix used. Below is a led lamp specs on different batches. You can see the Red lamp, Green lamp and Blue lamp’s wavelength have slightly difference. Though its brightness is similar, but as the wavelength is different, which would cause color difference

1：NICHIA
Nichia Corporation is a Japanese chemical engineering and manufacturing company headquartered in Anan, Japan with global subsidiaries. It specializes in the manufacturing and distribution of phosphors, including light-emitting diodes (LEDs), laser diodes, battery materials, and calcium chloride.
Nichia’s led lamp has very good quality, but the price is very expensive, and now only some high end product is still using Nichia led lamp.

Cree’s led lamp is expensive, normally used in high end projects.
3: Muti-Color 
Founded in 2009, Muti-color is a company specializing in designing and producing LED lamps. Aiming to produce high-end led lamps. Well known for its four in one led lamp.
The lamp price is expensive, normally used in high end project that in need of high color gamut, and narrow color consistency.
4: Nationstar 
NATIONSTAR is a National level key high-tech enterprise with professional capability in manufacturing LED components and LED application products. The enterprise’s production bases cover total area is 92,600㎡, while workshops and offices building area is 199,000㎡. NATIONSTAR was founded in 1969 and started LED production in 1976.
Nationstar is currently the most popular led lamp in the market, it is well known for its high quality and reasonable price. It has a wide product range, from indoor to outdoor led display market.
5: Kinglight 
In the semiconductor device domain, Kinglight covers a spectrum of categories including optoelectronic transistors, Schmitt triggers, controllable silicon optocouplers, high-speed isolation amplifier optocouplers, PhotoMos SSR optocouplers, IGBT isolation drives, IPM interface isolation high-speed optocouplers, and linear optocouplers. Kinglight is also a well-known led lamp brand among customers. It is normally used to compare with Nationstar, but with cheaper price than Nationstar.

Sintopto is a relatively new brand, but it gain its reputation very fast, around the same price range as Kinglight, but the led lamp details treatment is better than Kinglight.

Xinda led lamp is an old led lamp brand, Price is cheaper than Kinglight.
There still have many led brand that did not list here, But the ones above are the most popular led brand. If you do not have much experience in using led screen. Then Nationstar, Kinglight, and Sintopto can be a good choice to start.
