Quick takeaway
When you select your video processor, not only you need to check the video processor’s output port carry ability, you should also check your input interface’s carry ability. For example, if your led display has 5 million pixels in total, normally using Novastar VX1000 is ok, but Novastar VX1000’s input interface is HDMI1.4 or DVI1.4 which only supports 3840*1080 = 4,147,200 pixels, which means it has 1 million pixels that video processor can not control ( in the condition of dot to dot mapping)
Hence when you select the video processor of the led display, you should also consider the interface’s carry ability. Below is the introduction of different input interface.
DVI interface in LED Display:
DVI means Digital Visual Interface, Designed to transmit uncompressed digitized video. Widely used in display devices such as LCDs and digital projectors. This standard was developed by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG), a forum composed of several leading manufacturers in the display industry. The DVI interface can send uncompressed digital video data to the display device. This specification is partially compatible with the HDMI standard.
DVI interface is the most popular interface in Novastar’s sending box, from its basic Mctrl 300, Mctrl 600, to VX series. Also very popular in Colorlight’s sending box ( most colorlight’s sending box would also have HDMI port)
HDMI interface in LED display
HDMI is currently the most widely used video transmission interface. Most of the electronic devices we use in daily life have HDMI interfaces, such as common TVs, computers, cameras and other equipment. Applications such as HDMI are very common. Its design is mainly for application scenarios of long-distance video transmission in consumer electronics.
Through the standardized HDMI interface, audio and video input and output can be easily realized between different products and devices of different brands.
HDMI interface is normally showed up in Novastar’s video processor series, like VX400, VX600, VX1000, and Mctrl 4K, etc.
HDMI interface is the most popular interface used in Colorlight’s sending box, and most colorlight’s sending box is equipped with HDMI2.0.
Due to different versions of HDMI, it has different carrying abilities.
HDMI1.3: 1920*1200@60Hz
HDMI1.4:3840*1080@60Hz
HDMI2.0:3840*2160@60Hz
Hence when you selecting the video processor, you need to pay attentions to the input interface.
DP Interface in LED display:
DisplayPort (DP for short) is a digital video interface standard developed by the PC and Chip Manufacturers Alliance and standardized by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). This interface is free of certification and license fees. It is mainly used to connect video sources to monitors and other devices, and also supports carrying audio, USB and other forms of data.
This interface is designed to replace the traditional VGA, DVI and FPD-Link (LVDS) interfaces. The interface is backwards compatible with legacy interfaces such as HDMI and DVI via active or passive adapters. And DP interface is able to transmit high resolution data with less cables. Normally DP interface is also showed up on some high end led display controllers.
SDI interface in LED Display:
The SDI interface is generally used in the radio and television industry. It is a dedicated video transmission interface and is mainly used for multi-video transmission of live TV equipment, studio equipment, and audio and video production equipment. SDI has strong anti-interference and is suitable for long-distance video transmission.
Normally SDI interface only exists in video processor and video splicer kind of controller, of which it might use live stream. As SDI interface is also use different cables, and the port also have lock function which makes it more stable.
