How to do backup setting for LED Display

LED Display consists of multiple LED cabinets, video processors, computers, and all kinds of cables, one part go down would affect screen's user experience. By using a backup system, can make the led display perform even if some parts of the led display becomes failure, which is very helpful in events, conference rooms, commercial advertisments.

The purpose of backup is to reduce the possibility of onsite problems during the usage of the led display, rather than eradicate the problems. The main theory of the backup system is, when the problem happens, the backup system can switch in to take over the workload, which makes the problem unnoticeable.

For the LED display, it mainly has two workflows, First is the power supplier line, and Second is the signal flow line.

LED Display Power supplier Backup System

For the Power supplier Backup system, it mainly has two concerns, First is the main power source, second is the Power supplier unit used in LED Display. To make the backup system, we can make each led display cabinet with two PSU inside, while each of the PSU is connected with different main power source. Hence if the main power source is failed, the backup power source would be working. And if one of the PSU is failed, the other PSU would be working. The catch of this is that the led display need to support Dual PSU backup.

LED Display Signal Backup System

The led display signal connection layout is as below, the signal flow like this, computer->video processor->led display cabinets.

Hence the LED display’’s signal flow’s problem might happen in

1: Computer failure

2: Video processor failure or the signal cable from the computer to video processor failure

3: Receiving card failure

4: Signal cable between LED cabinets failure or signal cable between LED cabinet and video processor failure

With those four conditions, we can use different backup method.

LED display Net port backup setting

The Net port backup is try to solve the “4” signal flow problems, as the video processor is transmit signal to the led display through net cable, hence if the net cable is broken, the signal would not be able to pass down to the next cabinet, which means the rest cabinet would be “ black”.

With the net port backup, the last cabinet would also connect with the video processor, hence the video processor and the led cabinets formed a signal loop. When one net cable is broken, this loop can still transmit the signal to all the cabinets.

LED Display Video Processor Backup

As the video processor is a highly used device in LED Display, it might have chance to go down. Using a backup video processor not only can solve the the video processor failure problem, it can also solve the net cable failure problem. As the connection layout of the video processor is simialr as the net port backup layout, the difference is the signal circle loop of the video processor is formed with two video processor

LED Display Receiving card Backup

If one of the receiving card in LED Display become failure, the above backup method can not solve the problem. The receiving card backup system need to be supported by hardware, that the led display need to have dual receiving card design on the HUB board.Dual receiving card backup hub

The Receiving card backup system need two video processors, and each processor control one way of the receiving card. The connection layout is as below:

It solves the receiving card, signal cable, video processor’s failure problem.

Computer backup

Now the LED Display part all has backup for incident problems. The risk now lies in the computer part, we can also make a backup computer to feed to video source to the video processor. Hence if one computer is failure, the other one can still work.

Dual system + Dual signal loop back up

The above backup solution can already meet most of the requirements, but in some high level case, they still have a high stability requirements. Hence it can use Dual system+Dual signal loop back up. It is a combination of the dual receiving card backup and dual video processor backup. In this solution, it would have four video processor, while two video processor is responsible for the main receiving card connection,

 the other two are responsible for the backup receiving card connection.
