Brief introduction of this project

Customer want to make a double side Arc shape led display that hanging in a restaurant for decoration and interactive use. 

Screen size: Arc diameter:5m, Arc length around 28m, height around 0.2m.

Screen functions:

1: displaying menu

2: Led display can be responsive, that when a customer walk in the restaurant, the led display can automatically shows welcome

3:Customer can interact with the led display, that customer can send images or text to the led display to show up

4: Order line up system, that the screen would show up who’s order is ready to pick up

Customer's expectation and our proposal

The customer want to make its pixel pitch as smaller as possible, The Customer want us to make pixel pitch of 1.25mm or 1.56mm. 

Our final proposal is offering pixel pitch 2.5mm, with reasons as below

1: Judging from the customer’s application, the audience would be around 3m away from the led display, and the LED display mainly displays words. Hence pixel pitches 1.25mm and 1.56mm is not necessary

2: After we calculated the resolution of 1.25mm, 1.56mm, 1.875mm and 2.5mm we found that pixel pitch 1.25mm, 1.56mm and 1.875mm’s resolution would be too large to select relating sending box, pixel pitch 2.5mm is good to select either Synchronize or asynchronous system.

3: Budget balanced

Hence finally we propose pixel pitch 2.5mm, led module size 320*160mm, with Novastar TB60 sending box which can be used in Synchronize or asynchronous mode. The total resolution of the display reaches 23040*64

Difficult in Double side Ultra long led display

1: ultra long led display

As the resolution of the led display has reached 23040*64, The outer arc has 90pieces led module, inner arc has 88 pieces led module. We made 1 pcs receiving card carry 6 pieces led module, hence 1 receiving card would carry 768*64 pixels. Outer arc and inner arc would both have 15pieces receiving card.

As to configure ultra long led display, we need to use cut-to display technology, and the normal sending box’s canvas is 1920*1080, hence we would better to make the width resolution of the cut-to display to be less than 1920, which means it can only have the 2 receiving card in a column, which the cut-to display’s resolution would be 1536*960. But this would have 15 cut-to layer, and the normal software can only display content with 8 cut-to layers. (but if display customize display source, then it won’t be a problem.

Then we have to make the cut-to layer less than 8, then we can make 5 receiving card in a column, then totally would have 6 rows of receiving card. But in doing this, the cut-to display’s resolution would be 3840*384. Which means you need to do some configuration of the sending box to be able to show the content.

2: Synchronize system or asynchronous system selection 

As not every customer know the theory of led display, some of them do not know the difference between synchronize system and asynchronous system. Our customer here, he also want the screen can be able to show a default displaying content even when the computer is off. Hence we proposal with Novastar TB60 which can be used as synchronized system and asynchronous system.asynchronous led display controller

TB60 has a HDMI port, when TB60 is connected with HDMI, then TB60 would be acted as a synchronize sending box, that it would map the displaying content from the computer to the led display. When the computer is off, TB60 would work as a asynchronous sending box, it would show the default displaying content.

3: Installation

As the project is customized, hence theDouble side led display-Frame installation process is not conventional. We customized the led display’s frame to be as simple as possible,then we place the connect power cable and signal cable right next to the frame holes so that it can be easy to find.

4: configuration of led board

As this is a double side led display, the inner arc and outer arc’s led display actually theDouble side led display-installation connection and signal flow is mirrored, hence when we do the receiving card’s configuration file, the outer arc’s configuration file would be a mirrored configuration file of the inner arc. Which is different, and we also need to pay attention to the signal flow direction.

5: customize content

For ultra long led display, they all need to customize display content to fit the led display. And the customized display content need to be the same resolution as the cut-to display. In the project, the resolution of the cut-to display is 3840*384, this resolution also gives difficulties to the content creator, as it is not a regular ratio, which would be hard to design.

Solutions of real time interacts with led display

From above we know that when the cut-to display is above 8 rows, the normal LED display media player is unable to display the displaying content after the 8 rows. The situation becomes harder when you try to interact with the LED display, Such as in the stock market, the stock price changes from time to time. All those functions are unable to be achieved by led display media player. Hence we can use HTML coding to solve this problem. 

We can make a web page, then we mapping this web page to our cut-to led display, then what’s on the web page would be showing on the led display. We can make different APIs for this web page, then you can interact with the led display
